Getting To The Isle of Skye

There are two options for getting to the Isle of Skye by road. One involves a ferry ride from Mallaig and one involves driving over the Skye Bridge. One this is for sure though, both journeys are very beatifull and have spectacular scerey on route.

Depending on where you are coming from will probably dicatate your route to the Isle of Skye. If you are coming from the South or near Fort William or Mallaig you may wish to get the Caledonian Macbrayne  ferry to Armadale from Mallaig. Please click here for ferry times

If you choose to drive round to Skye over the road bridge you will need to first get to the Kyle of Lochalsh where the mainland, please see the map below for further detail and directions.

By Rail

The West Highland Line, departing from Glasgow Queen Street and taking in truly spectacular scenery along the way, is regularly voted the top rail journey in the world.

An overnight train, the Caledonian Sleeper, departs London Euston 6 nights per week, delivering you to Fort William the next morning where you can catch your connectint train or bus to Mallaig for the ferry to Skye.

By Coach

Citylink operate bus and coach services to and from Glasgow, Inverness and Skye.

By Air

Inverness is the nearest airport to the Isle of Skye and is 110 miles and a 2 hour and 40 minute drive, a very spectacular one & well worth the drive. Please click her for more information on routes to & from Inverness airport & details of getting to us from there.
